| We believe there are few jobs more important than conserving biological diversity. For example, raptors (birds of prey) are literally a barometer of how well we are conserving our environment. Poised at the top of the food pyramid, they represent an early warning system for all of us. A specialized species as we use the term is any species so dependent upon its environment that it cannot exist when it has been destroyed. By breeding these species we are ensuring that they never become extinct should this happen to them. We are, in effect, acting as an insurance policy against extinction. |
| Accordingly, one aspect of our continuing mission is to maintain a number of threatened (Appendix 2) or endangered (Appendix 1) animal species as classified by CITES*. This includes birds of prey that have been injured in the wild, have been rehabilitated but are not releasable. We supply their young to reintroduction programs for their release to the wild, when needed, and where this is applicable. |
|
This is one very real opportunity to do something yourself and become a part of the solution rather than being part of the problem. |

Your sponsorship will help us with the ongoing maintenance, captive propagation and future reintroduction of the species that you're sponsoring. If your preference is not to sponsor a species, a donation of any kind is also greatly appreciated. Anyone sending $40.00 or more to the Adopt-A-Species Program will be placed on our mailing list to receive our biannual newsletter, "The Conservation Chronicle" containing news, accomplishments, and activities of The Centre. The work The Centre is involved in is ongoing and ever expanding, and the funding we receive from our Adopt-A-Species program assists us with meeting the needs of the animals in our care, and ensuring the continuation of the quality of their lives, and this is greatly appreciated. |
