The C.C.S.S. Building Fund!

Thank you for your interest! And give yourself a pat on the back, you are about to take a step towards becoming -what we refer to in environmental circles as 'part of the solution'! :-)

One of our important goals at the Centre 'centers' around our Building Fund. When the Centre first originated in 1987, we began by building aviaries, and other animal enclosures. We settled on a property located in a very remote location, where there is virtually no public access. At the time, as we were not a charity yet, and because our minds were focussed primarily on the needs of the animals we were interested in working with, this seemed like a good idea.

We felt that the animals would be able to go about their lives unhindered by visitation, or any of the commotion associated with human activity. In truth, this is really the only way that threatened and endangered animals of a wild temperment will readily breed. They feel safe in an environment that closely mirrors the safety of the wild. That is; free from human disturbance.

The problem with this arrangement, is that because of our isolated location, there is really no way for the Centre to become a facility that is open to the general public. The Centre is situated in an area that is designated as "residential" that is not commercially zoned. Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely to become commercially zoned in the future.

The dense forest and open fields suit the animals needs quite nicely, as there is plenty of room for development as the Centre grows. However, we do not have a location where we can be open to the public and involve them in our work and conduct educational programs on a regular basis, ~ And this is vitally important!!!
