Photos of the Young Swainson's Hawks
Hatched in 2002

4 young between 2-1/2 and 3-1/2 weeks of age. The female is pacing nervously in the front, one young visible in this photo facing the corner.
A perch in the foreground almost blocks the photo

Male on the left, female on the right. Two young hawklets on each side of the nest are awake, between their parents, one is asleep in the middle barely visible, another is lying down and not visible in the photo.

Here the male is on guard at the nest, with 3 young visible in this photo if you really look closely. One is in the front of nest, two are barely visible behind this one; to the right, darker looking facing straight forwards among the branches, and the other is to the left of the obvious hawklet, above that one, leaning against the wall.

One hawklet is visible here in the far left of the nest, facing the corner, sleeping on a pile of branches. Another is in the right of the nest at the front with its beak open. Another is behind this one is leaning up against the wall facing Dad. The fourth is still partially obscured by branches at the far right of the nest facing forwards.

Dad is on the left, Mom is on the right.
One young still in the corner, the other in the front facing dad again, and the one behind this and to the left of it, that was leaning against the wall, is now facing forwards. Mom makes an alarm call. A crow or chickadee flew overhead.
(Notice the edge of the peep hole at the bottom right corner of the photo.)
