Here are some more digital photos of the Tawny Owls at The Centre.

Unfortunately, this lone female was all we were able to photograph during our visit with the camera to her aviary. Her mate was sleeping in the nest box below, and was 'not available for comment'.

Here she is on one of the ramps in the aviary, this photo should be last really, as she hopped up into the nest box to join her mate after it was snapped.

Like all owls, Tawny Owls have the ability to swivel their heads around approximately 270 degrees. (Without loosening any screws. ;-) )

Dozing a bit in the late afternoon sun. Her inner eyelids are visible over her partially closed eyes.

In this nest box are two young Tawny Owlets about 4 weeks old, curled up together sleeping. (Their heads are towards the bottom of the photo)

'Just a handful of fluff'
This is a three week old Tawny Owlet.
At the Centre we have a saying related to the sounds that various owls make to feed their young. Barn owls make a "Shweet, shweet, shweet" sound, so we call them the "Shweeters", Eagle Owls make a Bupp, bupp, bupp sound, ('The Buppers') and Tawny Owls make a Doot, doot, doot sound. The saying is: "Shweeters are sweet, but Dooters are cuter."
